Importing a Modbus Server Map

This is an optional feature and will only be available if it has been licensed in the key file.

Acquire must be in Config mode to perform these steps.

1. Select ‘Modbus Server…’ from the ‘Config’ menu

The Modbus Servers list will be displayed:

See the ‘Setting up a Modbus Server’ section if there are no Modbus Servers in the list.

2. Double click on the Modbus Server in the list

The Modbus Server settings screen will be displayed:

3. Click the ‘Modbus Map’ tab

The Modbus Map screen will be displayed:

4. Select ‘Import Modbus Map…’ from the ‘File’ menu

A Windows Explorer window will be opened:

5. Select the file containing the Modbus map

The file must be a tab delimited ASCII file with the the following format:

  • Modbus Server Address [tab]
  • Flowcomputer Modbus Address [tab]
  • Data Type [tab]
  • Flowcomputer Name [tab]
  • Data Map [return]
Modbus Server Address This is an integer value that defines the address that will be used by the Modbus server.
Flowcomputer Modbus Address This is an integer value that defines the address in the flow computer.Tip: If fields are missing from the list after importing then they may be missing from the flow computer setup. Check the name of the fields in the flow computer screen and fix them in the Modbus map.
Data Type Check that the data types used match one of the supported field type names otherwise Acquire will use the flow computer field’s data type. Supported field types are Float, Double, 16 Bit Int, 32 Bit Int, Boolean, 16 Char ASCII, and 8 Char ASCII.
Flowcomputer Name This is the name of the flow computer as defined in Acquire. It must match exactly.
Data Map This is the data map that the field belongs to. Supported data maps are “Coils”, “Inputs”, “Holding Registers” and “Input Registers”.

Note: The first line is reserved for the column headings and is omitted from the import.

Tip: To generate an example file, simply add some fields to the Modbus map and select ‘Export Modbus Map…’ from the ‘File’ menu.

6. Click the ‘Open’ button

The Modbus map will be imported and the imported fields will be displayed:

7. Click the ‘OK’ button
