Server Modes

There are three modes that the server can operate in:

Config Mode

Config Mode allows the system integrator to change the way that the HMI operates. By default, Acquire starts up in Configuration mode with no passwords set. When the server is in Config Mode it will also be in Operator Mode and Admin Mode.

Tip: The ‘Config’ menu will be visible when the server is in Config Mode:

Admin Mode

Admin Mode is required to maintain the server, set IP addresses or add users etc. When the server is in Admin Mode it will also be in Operator Mode.

Tip: The ‘Admin’ menu will be visible when the server is in Admin Mode:

Operator Mode

Operator Mode allows the user to run the HMI and interact with the flow computers etc. Operator Mode does not have password protection on the server as default but it can be invoked by enabling server side users in the server preferences.

Note: Admin Mode should not be confused with the Administrator user. The Administrator user is the default Operator Mode user and has full access to the whole HMI.

Startup

When Acquire starts up it will automatically enter the highest level server mode that does not require a password. There are three possibilities:

1. If neither the Config or Admin Mode passwords have been entered, then Acquire will start up in Config Mode. This is the default setting for Acquire.

2. If the Config Mode password has been entered but no Admin Mode has been set up, then Acquire will start up in Admin Mode.

3. If both the Config and Admin Mode password have been entered, then Acquire will start up in Operator Mode.

Deployment

It is recommended that the Config Mode password and Admin Mode passwords should be allocated once the system has been deployed to prevent operators inadvertently making changes to the HMI.

Warning: Keep the Config and Admin Mode passwords in a safe place. There is a charge for recovering lost passwords.
