Acquire must be in Config mode to perform these steps.

1. Select ‘P&ID’ from the ‘Acquire’ menu

2. Double click on the Valve on the P&ID

The Valve Properties window will be displayed:

3. Double click on ‘Valve Position’ in the list

The Field List window will be displayed:

4. Select the field that represents the valve’s position

The valve position field should return one of these values:

Tip: The valve status can come from the flow computer or a PLC.

5. Click the ‘OK’ button

The Valve Position Flowcomputer Field will be added to the list:

6. Double click ‘Open’ in the list

The Field List window will be displayed again:

7. Select the field that will command the valve to open

8. Click the ‘OK’ button

The Open Flowcomputer Field will be added to the list:

9. Double click on the Open Value cell

The cell will become editable.

10. Enter the value that should be written to the Flowcomputer Field when the valve is commanded open

In the example above, Acquire will send a value of “1″ to the “Scratchpad One-shot (2Sec) Point #01″ field when the valve’s ‘Open’ button is clicked on the P&ID.

10. Repeat steps 6-9 for the Close field

The list will be completed as follows:

11. Click the ‘OK’ button

The P&ID will be displayed with the valve status shown:

Acquire uses the following colors for valve statuses by default:

  • Purple – Illegal
  • Green – Open
  • Red – Closed
  • Flashing Green – Moving

The valve status colors can be changed in Server Preferences. See the ‘Changing the Valve Colors’ section for more details.

The valve status will be updated automatically and flow through the pipeline will be shown if flow is possible. For more information about how the P&ID flows see the ‘Setting Up Flow’ section.
