Setting up Flow on the P&ID

Acquire must be in Config mode to perform these steps.

Warning: This section describes how the flow works in Acquire and provides a worked example which will overwrite your changes. Do not follow this example on a production database.

1. Select ‘P&ID’ from the ‘Acquire’ menu

2. Select ‘New P&ID’ from the ‘File’ menu

A blank P&ID will be displayed:

3. Select ‘Pallet’ from the ‘P&ID’ menu

4. Select ‘Pipes’ from the ‘Devices’ popup menu

5. Drag an ‘Interface Right’ icon onto the P&ID

The Device Properties window will be displayed:

6. Select ”Inlet” from the ‘Subtype’ popup menu

Flow will always start from an inlet interface.

Note: Default subtypes act as both an inlet and outlet interface.

7. Click the ‘OK’ button

The inlet will be added to the P&ID:

8. Drag an ‘Interface Left’ icon onto the P&ID

The Device Properties window will be displayed:

9. Select ”Outlet” from the ’Subtype’ popup menu

Flow will always end at an outlet interface.

Note: Default subtypes act as both an inlet and outlet interface.

10. Click the ‘OK’ button

The outlet will be added to the P&ID:

11. Drag pipe icons onto the P&ID to connect the inlet to the outlet

When the inlet and outlet are connected the P&ID will flow:

12. Select ‘Valves’ from the ‘Devices’ popup menu

13. Drag a valve onto the pipe on the P&ID

14. Click the ‘OK’ button

All flow is disrupted by a valve that is closed or illegal. To enable flow set up the valve.

A P&ID can have multiple inlets and outlets.

Note: Tank devices act as both inlets and outlets.
