An RTU can only be added to a station if there is an unallocated stream. See the ‘Adding More Streams to a Station‘ section for more details.
If there is an unallocated stream, Profile will automatically ask to add the RTU.
This should uniquely identify the RTU on the entire system, i.e. a tag name, location or serial number
If the desired RTU Type does not appear in this menu please contact Ambrit or your system administrator.
For new configurations specify the fields as follows:
Configuration Type | The configuration types are predefined templates that define the modbus map, screens, units and reports to be used. |
Configuration Name | This is the name of the configuration. Once the configuration has been created for this RTU it can be shared for other similar RTUs. |
Batching Type | If the RTU supports batching then there are two different batching types available: station batching and stream batching. Select the batching mode that matches your RTU setup. |
For TCP or Satellite (TCP) Connections:
Protocol | The protocol for TCP connections should normally be set to Modbus TCP. If a serial to Ethernet gateway or similar device is being used then other serial protocols maybe selected. |
IP Address | This is the IP address of the RTU as either the dotted address, e.g. “172.16.0.86″ or hostname, e.g. “rtu.yourdomain.com”. |
TCP Port | This is the Modbus TCP port used to communicate with the RTU. The normal Modbus port is 502. |
Slave Address | This is the slave address of the RTU. For TCP connections this should be set to 1. |
For Serial, Modem or Satellite (Serial) connections:
Protocol | The protocol for serial connections should normally be set to Modbus RTU. |
Serial Port | This is the serial port in the server that the RTU is connected to, e.g. “COM1″. |
Serial Port Speed | This is the baud rate of the RTU. |
Serial Data Bits | This is the number of data bits used for the RTU. It is normally set to “8″. |
Serial Stop Bits | This is the number of stop bits used for the RTU. It is normally set to “1″. |
Serial Party | This is the parity settings for the RTU. It is normally set to “None”. |
Slave Address | This is the slave address of the RTU. Unless the RTU is connected through multidrop serial it is normally set to “1″. |
For Modem connections only:
Telephone No | This is the telephone number to dial to contact the remote RTU. |
Note: Profile will automatically set up the meter runs in the RTUs to match the meter runs in Profile using a straight through mapping (e.g. meter run 1 in the RTU = meter run 1 in Profile). See the ‘Manually Allocating Streams‘ section to find out how to configure the RTU manually.
This will add the RTU. This process could take a few minutes.
Once the RTU has been added (and the communication details have been correctly entered), Profile will automatically connect to to the RTU and start displaying real time information. See the ‘Viewing Real Time Data‘ section for more details.
If Profile doesn’t start communicating with the RTU, check the communications settings. See the ‘Editing the RTU‘ section for more details.
