N.B. This must be performed on the server.
A constant table lets values be mapped to corresponding text strings, e.g. 1 = “START”, 2 = “STOP” etc. When a constant table has been defined for a field, Profile will automatically replace the numeric value with its text equivalent whenever the field appears on a screen or a report.
1. Edit the field
See the Adding a Field to a Configuration section for more details.
2. Select an existing constant table or “Custom” from the ‘Constant Table’ popup menu
If it is an existing constant table, skip to stage 10.
If it is a new constant table then the following dialog box will be shown:
3. Enter a name to identify the constant table in to the ‘Constant Table Name’ field
4. Click the ‘Add’ button
5. Enter a value into the ‘Value’ field
Tip: Values do not need to start from 1. Any number can be used.
6. Enter the corresponding text value into the ‘Text’ field
7. Click the ‘OK’ button
8. Repeat steps 4 to 7 as necessary
Tip: Values do not need to be contiguous. If values don’t exist in the constant table then the numeric value will be displayed instead.
9. Click the ‘OK’ button on the main constant table screen
This will return to the Edit Field screen.
